The latest news from the Tewksbury Council on Aging.


The following information is provided by the Tewksbury Council on Aging:

The Silvertones will hold a dance at the Senior Center this Friday, September 13 from 7-10 p.m..  Tickets are available at the door at $10 per person.  All are welcome.  

Many thanks are extended to all those people who helped with the Breakfast Benefit held at the Senior Center this past Sunday and to all those who patronized the event.  The winner of the drawing was Donna Bell.

The MS Support Group will hold its meeting on Monday, September 16th at 10 a.m..  Karen Orband, RN, will be speaking on Multiple Sclerosis.  All are welcome.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center next Monday, September 16 for his popular afternoon dance.  Admission is $6 per person.

The following art classes and activities will resume next week on the following dates:

  • Chorus practice on Tuesday, September 17 at 4 p.m.
  • Stained Glass class on Wednesday, September 18 at 1 p.m.
  • Traditional Embroidery group (not an instructed class) will begin to meet in September on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
This Fall Barbara Antinoro will be conducting an “Exploring Pastels” Class.  However, this class will not begin until October.  If interested, please sign the interest list located at the front desk.  Information on the class will also be at the front desk.

The Council on Aging will hold its regular monthly meeting next Wednesday, September 18th at 12:30 p.m. in the conference room.  All are welcome.

Seniors will travel the back roads to Ipswich on Friday, September 20 and stop off at the famous Clam Box Restaurant for lunch.  The cost of this trip is $15 and includes mini coach transportations plus driver gratuity.  Lunch will be on one's won.

The Town's Recycling Committee will hold a "Zero Waste Day" at the Wynn Middle School parking lot on Saturday, September 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  For information on "Zero Waste Day" one may check out the web site www.zwdtewksbury.org.

Kay Maher will hold a Senior Center Cootie Party on Monday, September 23rd beginning at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to this fun afternoon.  Never played before?  No problem the participants will guide your way.

On Wednesday, September 25, the Red Hatters will be gathering together for a Crafts Night. Tickets are now available at $5 per Belle.  Belles will be making small hats, pins and Christmas ornaments.  Did we say "Christmas"?  Well,  the Red Hatters are also collecting Wal-Mart $10 gift certificates which will be given to the Tewksbury Food Pantry for the Christmas Season.  A Belle is available at the Center to accept donated gift cards.

Our Senior Citizen Artisans and Art Instructors will be holding a "Showcase of Creativity" art show at the Senior Center on Friday, September 27th from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.  Don't forget to mark your calendars for this event. 

The Seniors will hold a Giant Yard Sale at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street, on Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The public is welcome to reserve a table space for this yard sale.  A table space is $15 or $25 for two tables.  The event also features luncheon specials and a yummy bake sale table.  For more information one may call 978-640-4482.

Tickets are now on sale for the following day trips taking place in October:

  • Oct. 7– Foxwood $25 (Tickets will go on sale next Monday, September 16 at 8:15  a.m..)
  • Oct. 10– Aquasino Cruise out of Lynn $34 (buffet lunch included)
  • Oct. 17– Salem Cross Inn/Quabbin Reservoir $52 (lunch & guided bus tour of Quabbin included)

Community Teamwork (CTI) is looking for Senior Corps Volunteers for all its programs.  If you are interested in helping others in your community, in receiving a stipend for your time and a small travel reimbursement, or more information on its programs give a to the CTI office at 978-654-5673.

MVNP Site Coordinator, Shirley Lambert, is looking for drivers for the Meals on Wheels program. 

The position entails 2 or 3 day per week during the hours of 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  There is a stipend included.  If interested, call Shirley at 978-851-5121 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
