I can PROMISE you that if I come across Katie, you will get her back! I spent 3 months trying every possible avenue to find a wandering young cat his home, only to have to admit that the cat had been dumped (due to economy, most likely) and I was now it's new home. People bring neighborhood strays to me because I'm the animal person in my neighborhood. And, when I find them on my own, I read their tags, call them into the Vet's office, or call the P.D.'s, and hold onto them until I find out exactly where it is they need to be--from here to Newburyport, no matter how much time it takes! Meanwhile, since the average person doesn't have time for that level of commitment, post the photo in the surrounding Market Baskets, Libraries, LaundryMats, give them to the PD's, Dog Catchers, stuff them in mailboxes, staple at eye level onto telephone poles, hand deliver to all the Vets/Hospitals and Kennels in the surrounding towns, and use Yahoo Lost & Found/Pets. And, please let us know when she gets home. Prayers for you and your dog.

And, did you check with the Lowell MSPCA and the Salem, NH? My dog once walked home by herself, a 50-mile trek, from a place she had never been before that one time. It's possible. P.S.: Another thing that's possible is that around that time of year, cats and or dogs could get locked in sheds for the season. Unlikely with Katie, because she'd have eventually barked a lot to get out. But, you might add, "Please check your sheds and outbuildings" on your flyers.
