News From The Senior Center

Updates from the Senior Center.

The following was submitted by the Council on Aging. 

The Senior Center Yard Sale which was to be held this Saturday, August 20,  has been CANCELLED. Refunds will be given to the few people who signed up for a table.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center next Monday, August 22, for an afternoon of dancing.

Dr. Smith will conduct a Podiatry Clinic at the Senior Center on Thursday, August 25. This clinic will be limited to 30 Tewksbury senior citizens and is partially funded by the Council on Aging. A
co-payment of $15 is due upon registration. Registrations are now being accepted and are on a first come basis.

Another CANCELLATION is the Historical Society play “Scot’s Heather Follies of 1861” which was scheduled to be held on the 26 and 27, of August. This event has been postponed until further notice from the Society.

Upscale consignors should note that due to the Labor Day holiday, the next “Intake of Items” day will be held on the last Monday of this month, August 29; and, that the Upscale will now to accept Fall
clothing.

A trip to Provincetown via the new fast ferry is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24. The trip cost is $85 and includes bus transportation to and from Boston, the fast ferry fee and a 5 hour stay at P-Town. Lunch will be on one’s own. This trip is contingent on enough sign-ups and one must sign- up by this Thursday, August 18.

Tickets for the Foxwood day trip of Tuesday, September 6, went on sale this past Monday. The trip cost is $21.

The following classes will resume in September at their regular times and days:

  • Wood Carving on Tuesday, September 6, at 9:30 a.m. in the crafts room
  • Oil Painting on Thursday, September 8 at 1 p.m. in the crafts room (there are a couple of openings remaining in this class
  • Bunka Embroider on Monday, September 12 and Thursday, September 15 in the fabric arts room (space is available in both classes)
  • Stained Glass Classes will resume this fall but a date has yet to be scheduled. This class will be held on Wednesdays beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The Friends of the Elderly will hold a dance on Friday, September 9 from 7 to 10 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Fred Manzi Band. Tickets are now available at $10 per person and may also be purchased at the door. 

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only. To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480. The SHINE Counselor is
available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.

Registrations are now being accepted for the Friends 14th Annual MAW Golf Tournament being held at the Indian Ridge Country Club on Monday, September 12. Tournament fees are $130 per person
or $500 per foursome and include: a day of golf at a private course, continental breakfast, a plated luncheon and prizes as well as an enjoyable day connecting generations. The public is welcome. For
