Players Break in New TMHS Courts With Fourth Annual Tewksbury Open

Champions were crowned in a variety of competitions at the school's newly finished courts.

Friends of Tewksbury Tennis recently hosted their fourth annual Tewksbury Tennis Open, as players broke in the newly completed courts at Tewksbury Memorial High School.

Tournament director Mary MacDonald organized the event, which drew more than 50 players in five division.

Players got to take the courts at the high school, five surfaces that had never been played upon until this weekend.

April McDermott won the women's singles bracket over Andara Katon, James Martin bested Andrew Cadigan to win the men's singles crown, Kylie Sedgwick and Laurin Joseph clipped McDermott and Nicole McColgan in women's doubles, Rick Keene and John Werner were men's doubles champions over Mike White and Max Katong, and in mixed doubles Andara and Max Katong teamed up up to beat Bruce and Mary MacDonald for the title.

There will be a ribbon cutting event in the near future to officially open the courts. For more information on Friends of Tewksbury Tennis, visit their website.
