Silvertones Band Dance, the Annual Quilt Show and More in Council on Aging News

The latest news from the Tewksbury Council in Aging.


The following information is provided by the Tewksbury Council on Aging:

The Silvertones Band will hold its monthly dance this Friday, Oct. 11.  Tickets will be available at the door at $10.  Why not come on down for an enjoyable evening of dancing or just plain listening to the sounds of a 17 piece band.

Special thanks are extended to all those who worked at the recent Yard Sale and to all those who assisted with the Art Show on the Sept. 27.  As always, your services are very much appreciated. Our Senior Center Volunteers, are a key component  in the operation and success of our programs. Again, thank you all.

The Senior Center will be closed Monday, Oct. 14 in recognition of Columbus Day.  Have a safe holiday.

The Council on Aging will hold its regular monthly meeting next Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 12:30 p.m.  All are welcome.

The Salem Cross Inn and Quabbin Reservoir trip is on again.  It will be held next Friday, Oct. 18. The trip cost is $52 and includes mini bus transportation, lunch choice of pot roast or chicken pie, and a guided bus tour of the Reservoir.  This will be a smaller group traveling. Departure time on the 18th is 9:45 a.m.  There are a few seats available. However, one must sign up by next Tuesday the 15th. 

The Piecemakers will hold its Annual Quilt Show at the Senior Center on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20.  The hours of the show are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Admission is $6 and luncheon specials are available for purchase.

The MS Suppport Group will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m.  In the afternoon on Oct. 21 there will be a Senior Center Cootie Party which begins at 12:30 p.m.  All are welcome to both happenings.

Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley SHINE Coordinator, Susan Cripps, will be at the Senior Center on Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. to discuss Medicare and supplemental medigap coverages.  The public is welcome to attend this informative presentation.

The Friends Halloween Dance will be held in the evening on Friday Oct. 25 beginning at 7 p.m. A costume contest will be held at 7:15 p.m..  Music will be provided by the Fred Manzi Band.  Tickets are now available and also available at the door at $10.

A Cribbage Tournament will be held at the Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 26.  The registration fee is $20 per person.  One may register prior to the tournament or upon arrival at noon on the day of the tournament. 

Then on Sunday, Oct. 27 the Seniors will hold a Breakfast Benefit and Mini Fair at the Senior Center. The Breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and, the Mini Fair will be open from 7 a.m. to noon.  Table space is available to the public for the Fair.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back for an afternoon dance on Monday, Sept. 28.  Those purchasing tickets ($6) by Oct. 23 will have lunch included.

Medigap Presentation from the following companies will take place on the dates noted:

  • Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. – Tufts Health Medical Preferred by Gerald Lodge;
  • Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. – Fallon Health Care by Heather Bousquet; 
  • Friday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. – BC/BS by Heather Hurd
Tickets are also available for the following Red Hat Carnation Belles activities:
  • Wednesday, Oct. 30 – Red Hat Halloween Party with a costume contest, soup and sandwiches and a show by “The Amazing Sensations”.   The event will start at 6 p.m. andthe cost is $15 per Belle.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 – Buffalo Bingo and refreshments -  $5
  • Thursday, Dec. 12 – A trip to the HuKeLau for lunch and a Christmas Show - $54
Tewksbury Board of Selectmen have declared the week on October 20th “Tewksbury's Drug Awareness Week”.  The week will start off with an Overdose Vigil on the State Grounds on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in remembrance of those who have died as a result of drug addition, as well as those loved ones who are in recovery.  The public is welcomed to attend.  During the week the Police Department and other agencies will be: working with students at all the schools, will hold several evening events/presentation for adults; and, the Board of Health will conduct presentation at the Senior Center throughout the week. The Tewksbury Police Department and Community Organization are to be commended for their continued fight against the increasing drug epidemic within our community.  One may check out the Tewksbury Police Department's web site for information on the week long activities.  Information is also posted on the bulletin board at the Senior Center.

The Tewksbury Police Department, in cooperation with the Merrimack Valley Pavilion, will be hosting the 15th Annual Community Safe Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at MVP, 2087 Main Street.  There will be games, face painting, safety demos, dancing, music and lots, lots more...a great day for all our Tewksbury children and grandchildren.

On Oct. 30, staff from the D'Youville Wellness Center will be at the Tewksbury Senior Center for a presentation on “Replacement Surgery – Before, During and After”.  This event is open to the public and will take place at 10 a.m.
