Excellent Chance Sandler, Lautner Movie Will Shoot Scene In Tewksbury

KMart, production company working out the final details.

What seemed to start out as a pipe dream looks to becoming a reality.

According to store officials, there is an excellent chance that a scene from the upcoming movie "Grown Ups 2", starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James, will be shot at the

KMart store manager Paul Boisvert confirmed that members of the production company for the movie came to the store on Wednesday to scout the location and that the meeting went very well.

"We've got to meet one more time to work out some details," said Boisvert. "i think the fact that Sandler is a big fan of KMart has helped."

David Gay, chairman of both the Board of Selectmen and the Economic Development Commission, was thrilled when told Hollywood may be paying a visit to Tewksbury.

"I think that would be a huge positive boost for the image of the town of Tewksbury," said Gay.

Massachusetts has taken steps in recent years to make itself available and attractive as a location for major motion picture production. Films such as "the Departed" and "Mystic River" were shot largely in Boston, while the Academy-Award winning "The Fighter" was shot extensively in nearby Lowell. Gay said he would be open to Tewksbury being made available as a location for future movie shoots.

"Grown Ups 2" is a sequel to the 2010 hit comedy starring Sandler (a Nashua native), James, Chris Rock, Salma Hayak, David Spade and Rob Schneider. The plot revolved around a group of high school friends reuniting for a Fourth of July weekend after their old high school basketball coach passed away.

The sequel is being shot this summer on the North Shore, mostly in Marblehead and Swampscott. It brings back the original cast, as well as "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner and Maya Rudolph. a 2013 release is planned.

Last week, about shooting in Tewksbury when he heard Marblehead High was unwilling to let the movie crew use its football field as a backyard movie set.

A spokesman for the "Grown Ups 2" production company could not immediately be reached for comment.
