Motel Caswell Could Soon Be Under New Ownership

Find out why the Motel Caswell owner currently has the property up for sale.

Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed a familiar property for sale in our weekly "New Homes for Sale in Tewksbury" listing.

Motel Caswell, located at 450 Main Street, has been up for sale for a few weeks now, according to owner Russ Caswell.

"It's been up for sale and we've had a couple of interested people, but no solid bites yet," Caswell told Tewksbury Patch.

Caswell said the decision to sell the property comes from his desire to retire as well as his wife Patricia's health.

"My wife has been sick in the hospital for seven months with a heart condition," Caswell said. "She was after me to retire before that."

Caswell said he had been considering selling the property for some time, but Patricia's health made him feel like it was time to take action.

"It's something I've had in the back of my mind for quite a while," Caswell said. "When [Patricia] took sick I felt it was time. I'm 70-years-old, it's time to retire. It's a transitional point for the hotel and I can't see myself doing this for another 10 years."

Motel Caswell's history

The Motel Caswell was opened back in 1955 by Caswell’s father, Russ Caswell Sr. Russ Jr. took over operations around 1983. Today, Russ’ wife Patricia and their son and daughter help to run the place. It stands as one of the few family-owned and operated motels left in Massachusetts.
