The Best Place to Buy Liquor In Tewksbury?

This week, we examine the world of adult beverages.

This week's Best of Patch Readers' Choice has a bit more of an adult slant to it.

We'd like to know the best place in Tewksbury to buy liquor. With summer just around the corner, it's time to think about parties and cookouts and there are times when those 21 and over would like to enjoy an adult beverage.

Here are some of local businesses we know that sell lquor. As always, if we've omitted anyone, feel free to let us know.

You can show support for your favorite business in two ways.

  • You can click on their name and leave a positive review on the Patch Directory page.
  • You can vote in the reader poll below. Just a reminder, voting is limited to one vote per day per person and mechanisms are in place to detect any voting "irregularities."

Can't come up with anything better than promoting drinking alcohol??? seriously??? Not enough going on with drunk drivers and abuse in the town and now we are going to survey where the best place to go to get your buzz materials? Think I have had enough of the "Patch"
Joe Bill May 14, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Wow! I don't find a simple question of where is the best to buy alcohol to be so offensive. Most of us can use it responsibly and not be driving on sidewalks or assaulting a family member. Will you also be angry when they come out with a poll asking about the best fast food places. Because after all society has bunch of obese slobs pulling out of drive thru's with their cars undercarriage scraping on the ground. What happened to holding people accountable for their actions? As far as your last quote "think I have had enough of the Patch" I hope you have because your last post was aggravating.

Sun Shine.... The primary purpose of the "Best of Patch" series is to help promote local businesses. As a corporate citizen of Tewksbury, we're committed to doing what we can to promote the concept of "buying local" to help boost the local economy. We are not encouraging excess consumption of alcohol with this poll, anymore than we were promoting overeating and high cholesterol when we asked who made the best french fries.

JC has an amazing selection of beer, wine and spirits. You will find old stand by brands but what we really like is they sell many unique varieties that you don't see at other stores. Lots of fun microbrews. Prices are on the higher side but worth it to get something you can't find elsewhere and if you want a refreshing change from your Bud Light.

Sun Shine does have a point. Tewksbury certainly does have a lot of people who operate under the influence. I find at least once a week I have to pick up all the empty beer cans that are thrown from people drinking an driving (Why do the cans thrown all around town always seem to be Bud LIght cans??) So these people are also litterbugs. It is sad that there are people in Tewksbury that can't even drive without having a drink. So in that respect we shouldn't be promoting business that support these people. Hey Bill, I have never seen a poll regarding the best place in town to buy cigarettes? Why don't you promote tobacco shops while your at it????
CM9 May 14, 2012 at 06:38 PM
I think some are taking this poll the wrong way. If you don't drink or condone others drinking just ignore the poll and don't shop at these stores instead of attacking Bill. How long has booze and establishments that sell or serve it been around? Are the same people bashing this poll also against bars and restaurants. After all that's their bread and butter. Mike T I have barely one or two drinks a week and they are disposed of in my trash can not on our streets. Not all people who drink are litter bugs. Liquor stores are not to blame for trashy disrespectful people.

What's the name of the packy by Market Basket at 10 Main St? High prices, rude clerks, poor selection, and they never give you an itemized receipt? I can't wait until Market Basket can sell beer and wine in this town...

I typically buy in Wilmington @ East Gate Liquors when I need to buy in Mass . Most of the time I buy in New Hampshire . East Gate has the best prices around locally .

I'm a resident of the town, who enjoys a good beer every now and then. The fact that people drink and drive is despicable, I agree. However, doing a small poll that will take two seconds and may get more people to shop at a Tewksbury resident's business is also despicable. If you don't drink, that is your decision. Drunken driving is a horrible part of society. "Joe Bill" has a great point. Obesity is also a horrible thing. Otherwise, Aubut's Liquors has long had an amazing wine selection, and the last time I visited they even put in a microbrew section. I've also spoken with the owner and he has gone out of his way to order a wine that I asked him about. Great people there.

And as a sidenote: I find that in reading the newspapers, most of the people drinking and driving tend to be underage, no? I know a fair share of the drunk drivers out there are of age, but just wanted to say that.

I like seeing the list of the stores. I tried out Aubuts the other day and was surprised at the selections when I walked in. It was much bigger and varied than I expected. I have been going to Main St Liq, but the owner there is very rude and I have grown tired of giving him my business. I would have otherwise headed to stores up the street in Lowell but will now try using these other places in town instead.

I make bath tub gin and operate a moonshine still. If anyone is interested, I will send my PO Box and leave my product in jugs on the side of the road.
