Finegold Returns 5,000 Signatures, First to Qualify for State Ballot

The State Senator is seeking election as State Treasurer.

State Senator Barry Finegold became the first candidate seeking state office to return the required 5,000 certified signatures to become eligible for this fall's race for State Treasurer, his campaign reported in a Thursday announcement.

“I am thrilled at how our field team worked together to gather signatures from across the Commonwealth," said Finegold, according to the announcement. "It’s a true testament to the strength of the organization we have and the amazing work ethic of the volunteers working for us.”

In addition, Finegold is also the leading financial candidate, his campaign said. The State Senator has over $400,000 in cash at hand, which is more than all of his competitors combined.

Finegold won his senate seat in 2010 for the Second Essex and Middlesex District of Tewksbury, Andover, Dracut and Lawrence. He was re-elected in 2012 to that position.

The Democratic Primary for the state's Treasurer and Receiver General will take place this September, and Finegold's campaign said he is excited to be a part of it.

“I want to thank everybody who took time away from their families and friends to go door to door and stand out at grocery stores and parks to collect the thousands of signatures we have in hand," said Finegold. "Our message of trust, hard work and a humble beginning is really resonating with people across the state. Our Campaign is growing and the momentum we have is building each day.”
