Agricultural Resources Distributes Senior Farmers’ Market Coupons

Elder Services
works with Council on Aging staff to distribute coupons to elders across the
valley



July 2013 – Lawrence, MA – The Merrimack Valley Nutrition
Program (MVNP), in partnership with Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley,
Inc., is scheduled to distribute Senior Farmers’ Market Nutritional Program
coupons on Wednesday, August 7th at seven (7) Senior Center sites. While
distribution will occur only at designated sites, all 23 cities and towns in
the Merrimack Valley are encouraged to participate.  Elders are encouraged to go to the Senior Center distribution site closest to them.

MVNP will be distributing
1,254 Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupon booklets, a value of $25
per booklet, within the Merrimack Valley. Collectively the Councils on Aging
have selected seven (7) distribution sites: Amesbury Senior Center, Billerica
Senior Center, Dracut Senior Center, Haverhill Senior Center, Lawrence Senior
Center, and the Methuen Senior Center. Each recipient will receive a listing of
participating certified Farmers Markets and must use their coupons by October 1st,
2013.

Coupon vouchers are
limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis to eligible low-income
seniors.  The elder must be 60 or older, present
photo ID showing Date of Birth and address, and must show one of the following
forms of proof of low- income status: Supplementary Social Security Income (SSI)card, Section 8 Housing voucher or letter, and Energy Assistance Program letter to be eligible.   A MassHealth card will
be accepted subject to an on-site call to verify the recipient’s status is
active.
