MCC’s Free International Film Series Continues with ‘Bitter Seeds’
Middlesex Community
College will feature “Bitter Seeds,” as the next installment in the 2013-14 International Film Series, to
be screened at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in MCC’s Federal Building Assembly
Room, 50 Kearney Square, on the Lowell campus. Free and open to the public, the
program begins with light refreshments and concludes with a post-screening
discussion.
“Bitter Seeds” is
the final film in Micha X. Peled’s award-winning “Globalization Trilogy,”
following “Store Wars: When Wal-Mart Comes to Town” and “China Blue.” Every 30
minutes a farmer in India kills himself in despair because he can no longer
provide for his family. Will cotton farmer Ramkrishna be next? Manjusha, the
neighbor’s daughter, is determined to become a journalist. Ramkrishna’s plight
becomes her first assignment.
