Youth Orchestra Performance

The Youth Ensemble of New England (YENE) will perform at the Tewksbury Congregational Church, Tewksbury, MA on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 7:00p.m. Admission is free – a free will offering will be taken and donations are appreciated.  The public is welcome to attend the concert to be held at the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East Street, Tewksbury, MA.

YENE is a youth orchestra made up of about forty young people from the ages of 9-20. Also performing with the group are several “alumni” members of the orchestra. Based in Lancaster,
Massachusetts, the Youth Ensemble of New England is directed by founder Dr. Connie Rittenhouse Drexler.  This performance is in part to help raise funds for the music programs at Tewksbury Congregational Church.

Now in its 11th year, the youth orchestra performs an average of 25 concerts per year throughout New England and on international concert tours. In July 2012, the orchestra was privileged to perform concerts at The Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, at St. Georges Chapel in Windsor Castle and several churches in Iceland.

Their concert repertoire is taken from a variety of great classical and sacred music composed in the Baroque period – Handel, Vivaldi and Bach - up to the present time. Conductor Dr. Drexler connects with the audience at concerts by introducing each piece, making the concerts lively and appealing to young and old alike.  The orchestra performs throughout the year for a wide range of listeners at various venues including churches, schools and senior centers as well as concerts held at historic sites.

Audiences often remark on the high level of musicianship exhibited by these dedicated young performers.  The orchestra rehearses twice weekly, gathering members from throughout Central Massachusetts. The warm encouragement of Music Director Drexler allows these young musicians to enjoy performing challenging repertoire as well as being featured soloists. Many play multiple instruments. Playing in the group is truly a family affair with many siblings participating as well as a several parents.
