Game #2 between the Mortgage Financial, Inc. Diamondbacks and the B&M Office Installation Rays proved to be perhaps the most thrilling game of the year, going right down to the wire in a very tight pitching and defensive battle. This was one of those thrilling games where it was a shame that only one team could win. Both teams had their share of excellent pitching, outstanding defensive plays and key hits. For the Diamondbacks, Sydney Quinn had an outstanding complete game performance, recording ten strikeouts. Defensively for the Diamondbacks, Brooke Lamothe at third base made several key stops and completed the play by making strong and accurate throws to nip the runners at first base. The biggest defensive play of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Brooke caught a fly ball to third and was able to double up the runner at third base to end the inning and a big Rays scoring threat. Pitcher Sydney Quinn and catcher Julia Hartnett combined to record two big outs at the plate in the bottom of the second inning to prevent two runs from scoring. Marissa Brangiforte was very solid at first base, finishing off a number of Diamondbacks defensive plays. On offense, Erica Pantanella and Marissa Brangiforte each had two hits and a run scored. Marissa was denied a third extra base hit in the fourth inning by an outstanding catch by the Rays' left fielder. Brooke Lamothe added a timely hit for an RBI and scored the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh inning that was driven in by Helen Johnson's second hit of the game. Amanda Clarke continued her offensive streak with another hit and RBI and Brooke Fullerton added a big hit in the second inning and scored a run.

In the end, the game came down to a nail biting bottom half of the seventh inning. The Diamondbacks were holding on to a 6 - 3 lead, but were facing the heart of the Rays' strong batting order. With two outs and two runners on base, the Rays' Abigail Naugler smashed a triple to narrow the score to 6 - 5 and place the tying run on third base. If indeed anyone in the crowd at Volunteer Field was still sitting at this point, they were certainly on the edge of their seats. The tension was high as Sydney Quinn faced the next batter. Fortunately for the Diamondbacks, Sydney Quinn remained calm, cool and collected and recorded her tenth strike out to end the game and clinch the 2012 Championship for the Mortgage Financial, Inc. Diamondbacks.
