Jr. Redmen Squirt AAA Hockey Team dominates Burlington in 4-0 win.

The Jr. Redmen Squirt AAA Hockey Team opened the month of March with a dominating 4-0 win over the Burlington Devils.

The Devils came out hot, putting immediate pressure on the Jr. Redmen but great defensive work from the two Andrews, Grieco and Della Piana, kept the Devils off the scoreboard early.  The Jr. Redmen finally got their legs moving with just over 8 minutes left in the 1st period.  Jack Griffin and Jake McDonough had back-to-back scoring chances but the big Burlington goalie made the saves.  The Jr. Redmen got great goaltending late in the 1st period from Ben O’Keefe, who made a great glove save on a breakaway and then flashed the left pad on a shot that was headed into the back of the net.

The Jr. Redmen dominated the 2nd period, scoring 3 goals in a 4-minute span and controlling play for the majority of the period.  The Jr. Redmen went on the powerplay with just over 7 minutes to play in the period and Alex Pescatore got the Jr. Redmen on the board first.  After some great powerplay passing by Justin Rooney, Jason Cooke, Andrew Della Piana, and Sean Murphy, Pescatore fired home a rebound for the 1-0 lead, assists to Murphy and Cooke.  The Jr. Redmen kept attacking and took a 2-0 lead when Sean Murphy fired a bomb past the Devil goalie into the top corner of the net, assist to Billy Doherty.  The Devils attempted to make a comeback but Timmy Sweeney made a great play to break up a 2-on-1, and Justin Rooney used his great speed on the backcheck to break up a scoring chance.  The Jr. Redmen took a 3-0 lead with just over 3 minutes to play in the 2nd period when Jason Cooke scored on a breakaway.  Assist on that goal went to Billy Doherty, whose Mom, Kim Doherty, had a successful weekend as her Tewksbury High School Varsity Cheerleading Squad won the Division 2 North State Championship!  The Jr. Redmen nearly took a 4-0 lead as the clock was winding down when Andrew Grieco made a great play at the blue line to keep the puck in the zone, sending a beautiful cross-ice pass to Conor Cremin, who fired a nifty backhander that hit the far post.

The Jr. Redmen dominated play in the early part of the 3rd period getting great scoring chances from the line of Alex Pescatore, Conor Cremin, and Brady Chapman.  The Jr. Redmen took a 4-0 lead with 8:42 left in the game on a pretty passing play between Jason Cooke and Brady Chapman.  Chapman picked up a loose puck near the Burlington blue line, skating around a defender and slid a cross-crease pass to Cooke, who fired a one-timer into the top corner of the net.  The Jr. Redmen kept pressure on the Devils and nearly increased their lead on scoring chances from Jake McDonough, Timmy Sweeney, and Jack Griffin.  With time winding down in the game, the Devils were looking to spoil the shutout but Jr. Redmen goalie Ben O’Keefe made an acrobatic save on a breakaway to preserve his shutout and the 4-0 win for the Jr. Redmen.
