Redmen Girls U10-3 Soccer Team competes in annual Soccerween Tourney

On Sunday November 10th the Tewksbury Redmen Girls U10-3 soccer team took part in the annual end-of-season Soccerween Tournament held in Lancaster, MA.  The tournament draws some of the top teams in the New England area with each team dressing up in a costume.  The Redmen girls turned into the Lunch Ladies for the day and were a huge hit with the thousands of people in attendance.

The Lunch Ladies, sporting their gray hair, hair nets, stained aprons, old lady glasses, and knee high stockings, took on the Zombies from Billerica and left the field with a solid 2-0 win.  The Zombies had the early pressure but outstanding goaltending from Kylie Kennedy and rock-solid defense from Ava Paquette and Rebecca Langone kept the Zombies off the scoreboard.  Lunch Lady Isabel Desisto gave the locals a 1-0 lead when she took a nice cross pass from Maci Chapman and buried the ball into the back of the net.  Erika Hinkle nearly gave the Lunch Ladies a 2-0 lead as she used her speed to win a race for a loose ball but her shot just sailed wide.  The Lunch Ladies took a 2-0 lead when Grace Beckman and Leah Casey teamed up to steal the ball from a Zombie just outside the goalie box, sending a nice pass over to Ashley Talbot who made a pretty move around the Zombie defender and sent a hard shot into the far corner of the net.  The Zombies tried to mount a late comeback but could not penetrate the great team defense of the Lunch Ladies leading to a 2-0 win for the Lunch Ladies.

After a short break, the Lunch Ladies were back on the field for a battle against the Prisoners from Quincy.  The Lunch Ladies came out flying and put immediate pressure on the Prisoners as Kylie Kennedy, Ashley Talbot and Grace Beckman all had early scoring chances that were saved by the goalie.  The Prisoners were able to gain some offensive zone pressure but back-to-back scoring chances were saved by Lunch Lady super-goalie Leah Casey.  Erika Hinkel, Maci Chapman and Isabel Desisto nearly gave the Lunch Ladies a 1-0 lead off a pretty passing play but Desisto’s hard shot just missed going in.  With time winding down the Prisoners had a great chance to take the lead but once again Ava Paquette and Rebecca Langone shut the door and denied the scoring chance securing the scoreless tie for the Lunch Ladies.

After a fun tailgating session where the Lunch Ladies got to serve food & drinks to their fans, the girls were back on the field for a battle with the Santa Claus’ crew from Westwood.  Both teams came out determined to win the game as they knew the winner would earn a trip to the championship game.  The Santa Claus’ were a very skilled, physical team and had the early chances to take the lead but the Lunch Ladies got great defensive efforts from Ava Paquette, Kylie Kennedy, and Rebecca Langone to keep the game scoreless through the first 5 minutes of the game.  The Lunch Ladies had a great opportunity to take the lead when Erika Hinkle sent a clearing pass down the right sideline to Isabel Desisto who quickly fired a cross-pass to Maci Chapman at the 18 yard line but Chapman’s shot was saved by the Santa Claus in net.  The Santa Claus girls took a 1-0 lead midway through the game on a great individual effort. The Lunch Ladies kept attacking but shots by Grace Beckman, Ashley Talbot, and Leah Casey were denied by the Santa Clause defenders. With time winding down and the Lunch Ladies in need of a goal to tie the game, the Santa Claus’ struck again to take a 2-0 lead and left the field with the win.

The Lunch Ladies would like to thank Coach Krissy, Coach Steve, and Coach Richard as well as their parents for a fun day and a great way to end a successful season.
