Tewksbury Redmen Girls U10-3 Soccer team beats Melrose 6-1.

On Saturday October 26th the Tewksbury Redmen Girls U10-3 Soccer team battled against a talented Melrose club and left the field with a dominating 6-1 win.

The girls had a great week of practice and came out flying to start the game, putting immediate pressure on the Melrose keeper with quality shots on net by Christina Wentworth, Ella Brown, and Nicole Potito.  The Melrose speedy forwards were able to gain some offensive momentum but the brick-wall defense of Ava Paquette and Ashley Talbot kept the ball away from the Redmen net.  The Redmen took a 1-0 lead midway through the 1st half when Erica Hinkle, who was playing her 1st game of the year after a broken arm, used her speed to get to a loose ball and fired a hard shot into the back of the net.  The Redmen girls increased their lead to 2-0 just 3 minutes later when Nicole Potitio and Kiley Kennedy teamed up to steal the ball from a Melrose forward at mid-field and sent a great cross field pass to Grace Beckman.  Gracie wasted no time firing the ball past the sliding goalie.  The 1st half ended with the Melrose girls controlling play but Redmen super-goalie Leah Casey made 3 straight highlight reel saves to keep the 2-0 lead for the Redmen going into halftime.

The 2nd half started with Melrose controlling play but Rebecca Langone and Ashley Talbot each made great individual defensive plays to keep the Melrose girls out of the goalie area.  The high-flying Redmen offense continued to move the ball very well, resulting in 2 goals in a 40-second span to make the score 4-0 for the Redmen.  Isabel Desisto got things started about 4 minutes into the half when she took a great pass into space by Christina Wentworth, and blew by a Melrose defender sending the ball into the far left corner of the net.  On the ensuing kickoff, Ella Brown and Erica Hinkle stole the ball and sent a nice pass to Maci Chapman just outside the 18.  Maci made a nice move to her right and fired a shot into the top-corner of the net.  Melrose continued to fight and put pressure on the Redmen girls but Kiley Kennedy made back-to-back saves in net to keep the 4-0 lead.  The Redmen girls took a 5-0 lead with just over 4 minutes to play in the game when Rebecca Langone broke up a Melrose chance and sent the ball up-field to Ava Paquette who dribbled through two Melrose defenders and slid a nice pass across the crease to Maci Chapman, who fired the ball into the back of the net for her 2nd goal of the game.  Melrose was able to get on the scoreboard late in the 2nd half but the Redmen girls fought right back and increased their lead to 6-1 when Leah Casey and Grace Beckman combined to steal the ball from a Melrose forward, sending a ball down the right side to Isabel Desisto who wasted no time firing a hard shot into the net.  The Redmen girls played great team defense to close out the game, sending the Redmen fans home happy with a big 6-1 win.
