Carol A. (Sullivan) Hazel, 65

Tewksbury Senior Center Secretary.

 

Carol A. (Sullivan) Hazel, age 65, a well known resident of the community, died Sunday, May 12, at Mass General Hospital, following a brief illness.  She was the beloved wife and high school sweetheart of retired Tewksbury Police Lt. George W. Hazel, with whom she had celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary on May 8th.

Carol was born in Brighton, November 22, 1947, a daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Claflin) Sullivan, and was a lifelong resident of Tewksbury.  She graduated from Tewksbury High School with the Class of 1965.

Carol was a communicant of St. William’s Church.

She worked as a secretary, beginning at Sullivan and Cogliano Publishing, Raytheon in Burlington, and MITRE in Bedford, before joining the Staff of the Tewksbury Senior Center.  She retired as Senior Secretary for the Town of Tewksbury, and was held in highest regards by the Senior population she tirelessly toiled for during her years with the Sr. Center.

She also served on the Board of Trustee’s for the Tewksbury Public Library, and was active during the construction of the new Library.  She also served on the Tewksbury Democratic Committee.

Carol’s last years have been enriched and filled with joy by the time she had spent with her twin granddaughters, Colleen and Kileigh.

Besides her husband, she leaves her beloved daughter and best friend, Erin Crail and her son-in-law Joe with whom she shared her home; her loving granddaughters, Colleen and Kileigh Crail; a sister, Claire McGrath of N.H.; a brother, Richard “Rick” Sullivan of Mansfield; her sister-in-law Denise (Delaney) Sullivan of Tewksbury who was the wife of her brother, the late William F. Sullivan III; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends acquired throughout her lifetime in Tewksbury.

Carol now joins her beloved daughter Colleen and son George W. Jr, in eternal peace.

Visiting hours Friday, May 17, from 4 to 8 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) Tewksbury Center, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.  Her funeral will begin Saturday, May 18, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury.  Burial will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Compassionate Friends, P.O.
