Late Tewksbury Resident Worked in Massachusetts Attorney General's Office

Elaine Sabadini Duggy passed away on June 28 following a long battle with cancer.

Elaine Sabadini Duffy of Tewksbury died Saturday, June 28, 2014 after a long battle with cancer at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading. Formerly of Malden, Elaine was 76 years old.

Born September 17, 1937 in Boston at St Elizabeth’s Hospital, Elaine was a long time resident of Malden. Her parents were Alfred and Helen Sabadini of Malden. She married the late Brendan Duffy of Boston on August 27, 1960 at St Joseph’s Church in Malden and they were married for 51 years. They moved to Tewksbury in 2003 where they resided until their passing.

A 1955 graduate of Malden High School and of Chamberlain Junior College, Elaine worked at the Malden District Courthouse, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office and the Massachusetts’s Attorney General’s office for many years. She loved her work and her co-workers and was well liked and respected at her job. She was also employed by the Malden YMCA in several positions and enjoyed being at the Y and at Camp Madaca with friends and family. She also had many friends and neighbors who she was very close with. She also volunteered at the Franciscan Center of Andover and at St. Leonard’s Parish in Boston’s North End.

Elaine is survived by her sons and their families: Marko and Carla Gasparello Duffy of Tewksbury and Kevin and Sharon Duffy of Malden. She is also survived by adoring grandchildren Geena, Marina, Sophia and Kieran. Elaine is remembered by loving cousins Debbie Panchella, Donna Purtell, Danny DiChiara, Dean DiChiara and Dennis McLaughlin and nieces and nephews Gifford Duffy, Elizabeth Ashwood, Joanne and Catherine Hirschman and their families.

The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street, Malden on Thursday, July 3rd at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 2nd from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be private.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brendan and Elaine Duffy Collegiate Scholarship Fund c/o Malden High School, 77 Salem St. Malden, MA 02148.

Elaine was a woman of strong faith and loved to be surrounded by her lifelong family and friends and will be remembered as an amazingly devoted grandmother. Thank you to all who shared the life of this wonderful woman, wife, mother, auntie and nana.
