Late Tewksbury Woman Was Active at Senior Center

Thelma I. Bourne, 92, passed away after a period of declining health.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Tewksbury Funeral Home.

Thelma I. (Ramey) Bourne, age 92, died peacefully on Thursday morning, April 10, surrounded by her family, after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife for 63 years of the late Leroy J. “Roy” Bourne, who died in April 2007.

She was born in Nova Scotia, April 1, 1922, one of five children of the late Edward and Maud (Zwicker) Ramey, and emigrated to the U.S. with her family as an infant. The Ramey family settled in Somerville, where she graduated from Somerville High School. After her marriage to Roy, they moved to Tewksbury to raise their family.

She was a communicant of St. William’s Church, and was active in Bingo, as a participant, as well as kitchen helper on Friday nights. She was a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center until her advanced aging forced her to slow down. She was remembered for having devoted her life to her family and God.

She leaves her son and primary caregiver, Roy Joseph Bourne of Tewksbury, with whom she resided, Paul Herbert Bourne and his wife Evelyn of Yukon, OK, H. Edward Bourne and his wife Amy of Mesa, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Candide Martell of Tewksbury; seventeen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was also mother of the late Margaret Alice Gloddy and the late Thelma Marie Martell; and the last survivor of her siblings.

Visiting hours Tuesday, April 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Her funeral will begin Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Middlesex East V.N.A., 607 North Ave, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880 are encouraged.
