Longtime Tewksbury Resident Developed Many Friendships at Senior Center

Dorothy Russell, 83, died Sunday at Winchester Hospital after a lengthy illness.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Tewksbury Funeral Home.

Dorothy D. (Dyer) Russell, age 83, died Sunday night, May 11, at Winchester Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Edward E. Russell Sr., who died in 2005.

She was born in Falmouth, Maine, January 18, 1931, one of four children of the late Horace and Thelma (MacMillian) Dyer, and raised in Maine. She graduated from the Falmouth High School in Maine. After her marriage to Ed, the family moved to Malden, MA, and settled in Tewksbury in 1960, where she had remained, most recently at the Carnation Drive Senior housing.

Mrs. Russell attended the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, and in her late years was a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center, where she maintained many friendships.

She is survived by five children Nancy Russell of Alaska, Donna M. Russell of Tewksbury, Edward E. Russell Jr. of Pepperell, James Russell and his wife Linda Neumayer of Ashby, MA, and Cathy Russell and her fiancé David Hatch of Lowell; five grandchildren, Allison Provincher and Victoria Smith both of Hudson, NH, Eric Smith of Chelmsford, Emily Russell of Pepperell, Jason Coville of Norwood; six great grandchildren, Joshua, Kelsey, Andrew, Natalie, Eric Jr., and Jack; a sister, Betty Lawrence and her husband John of N.C., a brother, Donald Dyer of Maine, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Ann Robinson.

Visiting hours Thursday, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Her funeral will be held Friday, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Friends of the Elderly, c/o Tewksbury Sr. Center, 172 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
