Thomas J. Byron Sr. , 84

WW2 Veteran formerly of Tewksbury

Thomas J. Byron Jr., age 84, a former resident of Tewksbury, died Thursday, December 6, at Lowell General Saints Campus in Lowell following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice M. (Butler) Byron, who died in 2004.

He was born in Cambridge, October 4, 1928, one of four children of the late Samuel and Catherine (Turnbull) Byron. He was raised in Somerville, and enlisted into the Navy at the end of WW2. He served along the east coast aboard the USS Weatherley. He later re-enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean War. He lived in Tewksbury from 1962 where he and his wife raised their family, and retired to Pelham, NH, in 1982.

He worked as a foreman at American Builtrite Company in East Cambridge. He retired from B.F. Goodrich, after the Builtrite company was purchased.

Mr. Byron was a member of the Manchester, NH, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He leaves eight children, Thomas and his wife Mary (Squires) Byron of Townsend, Marsha “Lindy” Giles and her husband Norman of Tewksbury, David “Tabor” Byron of Pelham, Wendy McCabe and her husband John of Haverhill, Lawrence and his wife Carol (Nawn) Byron of Pelham, Ronald and his wife Sharon (Lincolnbach) Byron of Loudon, NH, Wayne Byron of Pelham, and Daniel and his wife Sara (Runner) Byron of Pelham, NH; twelve grandchildren, Dawn Giles, and Thomas Giles of Tewksbury, Steven Byron of Amherst, NH, Danielle Byron of Derry, NH, Lawrence Byron Jr. of Londonderry, NH, Aubrey Byron of Winchester,MA, Catherine Byron of Pelham, Christopher Byron of Concord, NH, Jonathan Byron of N.C., Ashlee Byron of Loudon, Tyler Byron and Zachary Byron both of Salem, NH; four great grandchildrem, Ashley, Kaylee, Lawrence III, and Devlin; one great great granddaughter, Adrianna; a brother, Daniel Byron and his wife Ellie of FL; a sister-in-law, Ruth Byron of Hudson, NH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Richard Byron Sr., and Catherine Nichol.

Visiting hours Monday, December 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by interment with Navy Honors at Gibson Cemetery, Pelham, NH.
