William E. ‘Bill’ Smith, 85

William E. ‘Bill’ Smith, died Sunday, June 9, surrounded by his loving family in his home, following a brief illness.   He was the beloved husband of Veronica ‘Jerry’ (Anderson) Smith, with whom he celebrated their sixty first wedding anniversary last October.

He was born and raised in Medford, a son of the late, Francis J. and Yvonne (Aelbrecht) Smith.   In his youth, he was a pro boxer.  He moved to Tewksbury in 1960 to raise his family.  In addition to being a loving father, he was an avid runner and loved to play handball.  Before retiring, he workd as an electrician for Local 103 IBEW.

Besides his wife, Veronica ‘Jerry’, he is survived by four children, William E. and Wendy Smith of Georgetown, Cindy and Rod Laferriere of Windham, NH, Frank R. and Christine Smith of Salem, NH, David H. and Laurie Smith of Tewksbury; a brother, Frank Smith of Maine; a sister, Florence Bernabie of NH; eight grandchildren, William Smith, Haley Smith, Corilynn Smith, Rod Jr. and his wife Erin Laferriere, Nicole Laferriere, Alexa Smith, Michael Smith, Matthew Smith.

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey St. and Main St. TEWKSBURY CENTER, (phone 978 or 800 in MA) 851 2950.  His funeral will be held Thursday, June 13, at11:00 am in the funeral home followed by interment at Tewksbury Cemetery, East St., Tewksbury.  visit:  tewksburyfuneralhome.com
