RE: The Slots Issue.
I just got the giant card aimed at getting people to vote "yes" on the slots. The card mentioned "good-paying", not "well-paying", jobs; and it mentions some arrangement they have with MCC related to training people to work there.
My questions, or at least questions I hope have been addressed somewhere in pubic, are does anyone know how many, of the x thousand people who live in Tewksbury, are so lacking in training, education and/or existing work skills that they would require such training in order to work at a slots place/sports bar? . Count out high-school kids and retired people, and consider the population after that.
What jobs would people be training for, and what do they mean by "good-paying"? How many people are there IN TEWKSBURY who need jobs/work? Of those, how many require an income that will support a family, mortgage, rent, etc.? How many of the 1000 jobs said to be created by the slots-thing will do anything for those people?
Will the "slots place" limit who it hires to only residents of Tewksbury (I'm thinking that's unlikely, but, of course, I could be wrong.?
What, exactly, are those 1000 jobs going to do that another 1000 jobs from another business in that, or a different, location couldn't/wouldn't do for the people who live in Tewksbury? - or that, say, 1000 jobs created by 5 other businesses in town couldn't/wouldn't do?
I'm not particularly looking for someone to answer me here. As I said, I'm just hoping these are things that everyone asks and expects to have well addressed before deciding anything.
