High Tea to be Celebrated at Senior Center

Yard sales and dances also on the September calendar.

A Silver Tones dance will be held this Friday, September 17th from 7:00 to 10:30 PM.

Tickets are available at the door at $10.  The public is welcome.

A Yard Sale meeting will be held this Thursday, September 16th at 3:30 PM.  All are welcome.

Results of the  Mary Ann Wareham Golf Tournament will be noted in next week's column.

This coming Sunday, Sept. 19, is the date of the Senior Center Annual High Tea.

The Tea will begin at 2:00 PM with a performance by theater and TV star, Richard Clark, as he provides wit and wisdom through the character of Mark Twain.  High Tea will follow this performance.  Tickets sales will end this Thursday, September 16th and are $12 per person.  This event is being funded, in part, by the Tewksbury Cultural Council which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is open to the Public.  Hope to see you there.

Those people traveling on the Essex River Cruise followed by lunch at Shea's Restaurant next Monday, September 20th are reminded that the departure time from the Senior Center is noted on one's ticket.  Those unclear of the time, may call the Senior Center to check.

The GAC meeting which would have been held on the 14th has been changed and will take place next Tuesday, September 21st at 12:30.  The regular Tuesday Zingo games will not be held on the 21st.  It will be GAC bingo after the meeting.

Registrations for the next casino trip to Foxwood on October 11th will take place next Monday, September 20th beginning at 8:15 AM.

Since there were only a handful of names on the Big E interest list, this trip will not take place.

Red Hatters traveling to the Medieval Manor next Thursday, September 23rd are reminded that the bus shall depart from the Senior Center at 5:30 PM.

The Senior Center Giant Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, September 25th from  9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  This event is held "rain or shine" and usually has a great turnout.  For more information, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.

DJ Jon Mansfield will be back to the Senior Center on Monday, September 27th, for an afternoon dance.  Those people planning to have lunch at the Center on this day must obtain a ticket by Wednesday, September 22nd.

The "Caregivers Support Group" held at the Senior Center will meet again next Tuesday, September 21st at 3:00 PM.  The group will meet every other Tuesday as follows: September 21; October 5 & 19; and, November 9 & 23.  The public is welcomed to join.  One can register for the group with Lucille Bonanno at 978-372-4211.

The Carnation Belles will travel to the North Shore Theatre on November 17 to see Chorus Line.  The trip cost is $57 and tickets are still available. 

One will want to mark his/her calendar for Friday, November 5th when "Lee Lewis and the Doo Wop Allstars will be back to the Tewksbury Senior Center to perform and provide music to dance to.  They were a big hit the last time they were at the Center.  Tickets are now available at $15.  Don't be left out.  Get your ticket now.

Reservations are now being taken for the MEGA Musical "NUNSENSE" which will be  held at the Tewksbury Senior Center on November 19, 20 and 21st.    Mark your calendars for it would be a sin to pass up this opportunity.  The ticket cost is $40 and reservations are required by calling ACTORS, inc. at 978-984-3151. 

The Saturday, November 20th matinee performance has been added to the agenda for the purpose of recognizing our Tewksbury Council on Aging Volunteers.  Those volunteers wishing to attend may register at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These will be the only days that a volunteer may sign up.  When doing so, volunteers will be asked to fill out and up-date information on his/her COA volunteer work and hours. This event on the 20th will be free to COA volunteers.  If a COA volunteer would like to bring his/her spouse or family member who does not volunteer, this may be done at a cost of $40.  Space will be determined on a first come basis so don't wait too long to register. 

Again we remind residents that the Lowell Health Department is holding a day for Lowell and area Town residents to dispose of "Unwanted Medications".  These disposed medications are being collected at the Lowell Health Department, 341 Pine St., Lowell on Wednesday, September 22 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.  For more information one may call 978-970-4010 extension (9)4304.

Dr. Timothy Smith will conduct a Podiatry Clinic on Saturday, October 2nd.  Registration for the Podiatry Clinic will begin this coming Monday, September 20th.  A $15 co-payment is due upon registration.  This clinic is funded in part by the Council on Aging and is limited to 30 Tewksbury Senior Citizens.

A note of thanks is extended to Bayberry at Emerald Court, The Pines of Tewksbury and the Blair House for conducting a very informative Seminar this past Wednesday.  Those in attendance also had a very nice dinner which was sponsored by the Assisted Living Facilities located in Tewksbury.

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only.  To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.  The SHINE Counselor is available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.

A Farmer's Market is held at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street EVERY Thursday during the summer and fall months from 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM.
