Open Town Meeting 8/20/13

This coming Tuesday night, the resident voters of Tewksbury will have the opportunity to vote on an article for a change in zoning that would allow a slots-only casino. This will establish an overlay district to be superimposed on properties adjacent to Ames Pond allowing category 2 gaming establishments defined by Massachusetts General Law.

Over the past few months, I have heard from many residents who oppose a slots parlor in Tewksbury but I have also spoken to many residents who believe that this would be a huge benefit for Tewksbury’s financial future.

I think it is extremely important for our resident voters to make every effort to attend this Open Town Meeting scheduled on August 20th at 7:00 PM at the Tewksbury Memorial High School. On this very important step in the process, your vote most definitely counts.

My second point addresses how important it is to approve this zoning change and send this decision of whether Tewksbury should have a slots parlor or not go forward for the entire town to vote on. Our residents made it overwhelmingly clear that they want their opportunity to vote on important issues that affect their lives and impact the town of Tewksbury.

If this zoning change passes at Open Town Meeting, a town-wide vote is scheduled on Saturday September 21 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Please join me in attending Open Town Meeting next Tuesday and approving this Article for a zoning change and give every voting resident the opportunity they deserve to vote on this important decision.
