VFW Announces Voice of Democracy Scholarship Winner
Madeline Burgayne a junior at Tewksbury Memorial High School in Tewksbury, Ma. was named District 15 first place winner and will advance to the State level competition. Tewksbury's VFW Post 8164 sponsored Madeline. We at the Post are proud of Madeline and wish her well at the State level competition.
"The Voice of Democracy competition provides high school students across the country with the opportunity to speak out on freedom and democracy," says District 15 VFW Voice of Democracy chairman Vinnie Oliva. "The program has been popular and successful since its beginning in 1946, and we're proud to keep offering it to America's young people.
The Voice of Democracy program requires entrants to write and record a three to five minute script on a patriotic theme. "Why I'm Optimistic About our Nation's Future" was this year's theme. Nearly two hundred students district wide participated in the program this year.
