Alleged Drunk Driver Blamed For Closing Main Street

A Wilmington woman has been charged with drunk driving in connection with an accident that shut down a section of Main Street for several hours on Sunday.

Victoria Anne Lacount, 32, of 6 Bond St., faces charges of OUI-liquor, marked lanes violations and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

The accident took place just before 1 a.m. on Sunday near the intersection of Hinkley Road and Main Street. A resident of Hinkley Road called 911 and told police he heard tires screeching and multiple loud "bangs" just before his home lost power.

responded to the scene and found a vehicle, allegedly driven by Lacount, had struck a utility pole, breaking it in two and bringing the pole and live wires into the street.

Lacount was hurt in the accident and was transported to Saints Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries. She was then taken into custody.

National Grid was notified of the accident and sent crews to the scene. A section of Main Street from Hinkley Road to Villa Roma Drive was closed for nearly 10 hours as the scene was cleared.

Second Alleged OUI

Tewksbury Police responded to a second alleged drunk driving accident Sunday morning. This one also involved a car striking and damaging a utility pole.

The second accident took place just before 2:30 a.m. Police were notified by a 911 call from OnStar that an accident with air-bag deployment had taken place at the intersection of Pillsbury and Pleasant Street.

Officers responded to the scene and found the utility pole damaged and wires in the street. The driver of the vehicle, Richard Evans Jr., 44, 50 Wellesley Ave., Lowell, was charged with OUI-liquor. He was also hurt in the accident was taken to Saints Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Other arrests:

Michael Radcliffe, 40, 23 Banulis Road, Lowell, was arrested on Sunday, Nov. 27, and charged with shoplifting in excess of $100.

Other incidents:

On Monday, Nov. 28, at 6:54 a.m., police were informed that there had been a breaking and entering at Thiro, 1 Powerline Road, at some point overnight.

On Sunday, Nov. 27, at 5:49 p.m., a woman called police to report that while her daughter had been driving her car, the driver's side of the vehicle was struck by a paintball fired by a passing motorist.
