Alleged Tewksbury Embezzler Rejects Plea For Bouncing Boyscouts Check
Tewksbury resident Lashanta Magnusson allegedly took $349 her son raised for his Boy Scout troop by selling popcorn and then wrote a bad check to the Boy Scouts for the same amount.
A Tewksbury woman accused of bouncing a $350 check for a Boy Scouts popcorn fundraiser has rejected a plea, maintaining her innocence and instead opting to go to trial, according to the Lowell Sun.
Lashanta Magnusson, of 41 Roper Lane, declined to plead guilty to one count of larceny by check over $250 on Wednesday in Lowell District Court, according to the Sun.
Magnusson allegedly took $349 her son raised for his Boy Scout troop by selling popcorn and then wrote a check to the Boy Scouts for the amount which subsequently bounced, the Sun reports.
Magnusson is charged with one count of larceny by check over $250.
In a separate case, Tewksbury police allege Magnusson stole $5,125 from the Tewksbury-based non-profit Friends Of Special Education Kids in 100 transactions between 2010 and 2012, according to the Sun.
Magnusson is the former treasurer of FOSEK.
