Dandi-Lyons Employee In Fair Condition After Being Struck By Car

Victim was crossing Route 38 after getting out of work.

An employee of Dandi-Lyons flower and ice cream shop is listed in fair condition at a Boston hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday evening.

David Harrington, 30, had just left work and was crossing Route 38 when he was hit by a vehicle at around 6:15 p.m., according to an article in the Lowell Sun.

Harrington sustained serious injuries and was transported by Med-flight to Beth Israel Hospital. As of 12 p.m. he was listed in fair condition.

A section of Route 38 in South Tewksbury was shut down for a time after the accident.

According to Deputy Police Chief John Voto, charges have not been filed as yet against the driver of the vehicle that struck Harrington and no citations have been issued. A State Police accident reconstruction team is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident.

There is no crosswalk where the accident took place.

Dandi-Lyons is owned by state , who was recently elected to represent Tewksbury Wards 3 and 3A under the legislative redistricting plan.

I hate when people make comments when they don't know what they are talking about. You weren't there how would you know if he used the crosswalk or not, he got thrown 40 feet after being hit by a speeding car, the entire road was closed off. Also, he was wearing a red vest! Please keep your comments to yourself this is a family member. You sound ignorant.

Wow, old thread to have pop up on the new comment thing on Patch. I'm glad you're doing better everyday Mr. Harrington. I actually had a friend who was hit by a car about a year ago who went through a lot to recover as much as they have so while I've never been in your shoes, I've seen what being hit by a car can do to people and feel for you. That friend also seems like they've gotten the raw end of the legal side of things as well. As for your apparent family member above, who I assume was upset mostly by my comment, I meant no offense. I was more somewhat replying to the first person who commented who said there is a crosswalk in front of Dracut Appliance, which to me seemed to deny that there's no crosswalk in the area, which is what the article stated. Jaded as I am by the several years I spent watching pedestrians in Boston, I suggested how "There's no crosswalk" and "there is a crosswalk" might make sense. I do see how it can be construed as insensitive (and I'm sorry for that), and I certainly didn't say I knew what I was talking about, just saying what I saw that night from afar. Crosswalk or not, you should not have been hit. Good luck with everything.
