FBI Report: Violent Crime Up in Tewksbury Over Past Years

According to the report, 98 violent crimes were reported in Tewksbury in 2012.

Violent crime reported in Tewksbury rose in 2012 compared to a bit of a lull in 2011, according to new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the report, 98 violent crimes were reported in Tewksbury in 2012, up from the 80 reported in 2011 and the 88 reported in 2010

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year.

Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

The town's reported number of violent crimes puts Tewksbury safely in the lower end among cities and towns in the Bay State. Not surprisingly, Boston tops the list with 5,266 violent crimes, while other cities Worcester, Springfield, Brockton and New Bedford round out the Top Five.
