UPDATED: Mobile Home Fire Still Under Investigation

Owner was taken into protective custody after refusing to leave property.

UPDATED Wednesday, 8 a.m.

Fire Department officials are continuing to investigate a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged a residence in the Lakeside Mobile Home Court Monday night.

Tuesday afternoon, Fire Chief Mike Hazel said a cause for the fire had not yet been determined that it remained under investigation. Lt. Scott Keddie is leading that investigation.

were called to 153 Ipswich St.. just after 10:30 p.m. with a report of flames shooting out a window of the mobile home.

According to Capt. Mike Callahan, the flames were knocked down fairly quickly but there was fire damage to one room and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the residence.

Firelighters remained on the scene for about two hours.

Callahan said there were no injuries, but the home was deemed uninhabitable. Town records list the owners of the home as David and Donna Hawkes.

After firefighters had knocked down the flames and working to secure the building and idetify any potential "hot spots", Donna Hawkes appeared agitated and argued with public safety personnel and her husband at the scene. She indicated she did not wanted to leave the residence, despite its condition.

"This is my house," she said. She was taken into protective custoday by police at around 12:30 a.m.

Police reports indicate that earlier in the evening, around 8:10 p.m., police officers had gone to 153 Ipswich St. after a female resident called regarding suspicious behavior by her husband.
