A number of towns around Middlesex County have been listed among the "50 safest communities in Massachusetts."

Tewksbury, however, was not among them.

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted the low crime rates and other local programs of surrounding communities. Sudbury earned the top spot on the list.

Closest to Tewksbury on the list was Andover, which came in at No. 23 and was described as a "dynamic community that offers residents a high degree of community responsiveness and a diverse collection of recreational activities."

Andover features a violent crimes per 1,000 residents rate of .68, with a property crimes per 1,000 rate of 8.59.

Also among the nearby towns ranked by Safewise.com was Reading at No. 19, Lynnfield at No. 26 and Winchester at No. 28. Billerica, meanwhile, was the No. 50 ranked town on the list with a violent crimes ranking of 1.37 per 1,000 and a property crimes rate of 11.41 per 1,000 residents.

Do you think Tewksbury should have been included on the list? How safe do you feel in Tewksbury? Let us know with comments below.

I've always felt safe in Tewksbury. I just wouldn't hang out at the Motel 6.

Our family does not feel safe at all in Tewksbury. So may drugs dealers and drugs everywhere. The cops only stop the young drivers on the roads to harass them and that really stinks. I think this town is extremely unsafe.

I feel very safe in Tewksbury. I have seen an increase in arrests because our police are doing a fantastic job finding the criminals and arresting them. As for your suggestion that they only stop young drivers, I'd love to see what evidence you have of this. I have seen young, old and everything in between pulled over. That is clearly just your "feeling" and is not an accurate picture of things in this town.
