UPDATED: Police Recapture Burglary Suspect

Suspect had allegedly broken into Compass Lane home after escaping.

LATEST UPDATE at 8:22 p.m.

have apprehended a burglary suspect who had escaped from custody while still handcuffed this morning.

According to an Emergency Alert, the suspect was found hiding in a home he had broken into at 14 Compass Lane. According to town records, that home is owned by Robert Marcin, former member of the Tewksbury Finance Committee and and Zoning Board of Appeal, as well as the fomer president of the Tewksbury Boys Basketball League. Most recently, Marcin had run for the Board of Selectmen earlier this year.

It is unclear whether anyone was home at the time of the break-in.

The suspect, whose name has still not been released, was brought to Tewksbury Police Headquarters for processing.

Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan is expected to issue a press release regarding the incident later today.

Details of how the suspect escaped or where he escaped from were not immediately available. However, Tewksbury and State Police  swarmed an area around Shawsheen Street and East Street, as he had been spotted near the Market Basket warehouse.

Emergency Alert reports indicate that original search was focused around the Breckenridge Street area.

Multiple K9 units and the State Police Air Wing were brought in to help with the search.

According to a State Police spokesman, the suspect was described as "a white, male wearing a green shirt, brown shorts and a brown hat."  The suspect had been arrested on domestic violence charges and had several outstanding warrants.
