Billerica Man Charged With Kidnapping and Attempted Murder

Man charged after domestic dispute.

A Billerica man is facing attempted murder, kidnapping, breaking and entering and assault charges after he allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend in their apartment Tuesday.

On Tuesday at 9:21 p.m., the Tewksbury Police Department responded to a Pike Street apartment for a report of a domestic assault in progress.

Police located the victim hiding in another apartment. Officers observed what appeared to be red strangulation marks on the victim’s neck and that her face was red and swollen, police said.

Police arrested Ronald Raymond, 23, 8 Hugh's Lane, Billerica, and charged him with attempted murder by strangulation, kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and breaking and entering nighttime with the intent to commit a felony.

The victim told officers that she had gotten into an argument with Raymond about work and money. Raymond became enraged, grabbed her by her hair, and began punching her in the head, police said.

According to reports, while Raymond was punching her he also began trying to jam a hot dog he was holding in his other hand down her throat, causing her to choke.

The victim then stated that the ongoing attack moved into the bathroom where he continued to strike her in the face and head and told her that this would be her last night alive and that he knew that he had done this in the past but that this time she wouldn’t live to tell anyone, the police report said.

The victim, fearing that she would be killed, made an attempt to run for the apartment door screaming for help, but was grabbed and thrown on her bed where the suspect began to strangle her, according to police.

Police said Raymond  stopped strangling her when he became aware of the police response. The victim then fled to a neighbor’s apartment to hide. The suspect pushed in another neighbor’s doors attempting to locate the victim, according to police.

Raymond was held without bail at Tewksbury Police Department, and was transported to Lowell District court Thursday morning to be arraigned.
