New Details Emerge In Brutal Beating On Compass Lane

Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the attack.

Tewksbury and State Police are hunting for the person or persons responsible for a brutal beating that left a Lowell man fighting for his life in a Boston Hospital.

The attack took place around 3 p.m. on Compass Lane, a small, residential, dead-end road off Shawsheen Street.

Police received a call that a man was lying unconscious in a driveway. The name of the victim has not been released but Fox 25 News and the Lowell Sun have both identified him as being a 27-year-old Lowell man.

The victim was first taken by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. His condition is not being released.

Police are releasing few details about the case, including what the Lowell man was doing on Compass Lane and what the motive might have been in the attack. However, FOX 25 is reporting their staff saw police picking up dozens of pills from off the ground from around where the victim was found.

Scanner chatter indicates the weapon used in the attack may have been a heavy tool such as a wrench.

No arrests have been made in the case but law enforcement officials have indicated that they have a suspect in mind and are searching for that person.

Tewksbury Patch will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

This kind of stuff is getting out of hand. Senseless acts of violence are happening everywhere now adays. Hit and runs, shootings way too many car accidents and robberies. This is not how I want my chlld to think is the norm. It is such a sad sad society we live in, things need to change. Concerned Mother

I agree Diana...it is happening everywhere...no where to hide from the craziness...sad that we have to teach our children to watch out... This crime happened as kids are getting off busses...who wants their kid to witness this on their street...and i am sure the guys driving away werent exactly careful drivers...also...a concerned Mom!

Realistically though, it probably only slows down the chain of supply and demand for an hour or two for a couple people. Pills have become so damaging to every city and town in the country with no end in sight since the production of them by large companies will never cease.

Rick you are being incredibly rude. You also need a grammar leason. Of course what happened is a cause for concern. It does indeed happen everywhere but it's always scarier when it's close to home. If I was a mother I would be concerned too.

Obviously your on the computer too. Even if its happening everywhere should we be less concerned that it was so close to kids walking around? I am a concerned mother and one that feels maybe we need to get rid of the motels in tewksbury. I know its not going to get rid of the drugs but it would get some of the scumbag drug addicts out of our town!

And Rick if your not a "townie" then what are you doing on this website? Seems to me people like you are part of the problem just saying oh it happens everywhere so we should just forget about it.

I'm hoping that the Board of Health will start addressing the need for a task force and education, etc.

Hi Melissa, In regards to your statement. I am assuming you mean the drug issue in town. The Tewksbury Police Dept. and the Tewksbury Board of Health, along with Tewksbury Cares is Declaring the week of October 14th, Drug Awareness Week. They are focusing on education and awareness levels. The kids in the schools will be educated on tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse. And the Art Dept. will be working along with the kids. On October 15 the former NBA player Chris Herring is to speak at TMHS on the perils of drug use. Then on October 17th at 7p.m. the Police Dept. will have a drug awareness night for parents and all residents. Also, during this week the BOH will be educating the Seniors at the Senior Center. An Opiate Overdose Vigil for those who have lost friends and family to this drug epidemic on Friday night Oct. 19th, this is hosted by the Tewksbury State Hospital. Northeast Behavioral Health Program. Lots to say in a short time. Hope it helps. If you have question please contact the Police Dept. Or the TBOH.

Melissa, with due respect the LAST thing we need is a "task force". Everything government gets involved in gets worse. See "war on drugs". What we need is for parents to turn off American Idol, the View and Ellen and stop trying to be their kids friends! I have made it very clear to my kids what drugs will do to them and what I will do to them if I find out they touched drugs. I point out articles all the time on the stupid doing stupid things while on drugs. I talk about it every chance I get. I tell my kids what my parents told me: If you use drugs, pray the police keep you locked up because if they let you go, I will get my hands on you! We also have dinner at the kitchen table every night as a family. I think this is the single greatest tool we as parents have. We get 45 minutes of undivided attention and discussion.

With all due respect, I believe there is a bit of speculation, and alot of assumptions going on here in regards to this incident. Just because there were drugs found on the ground does not constitute a reason to believe that it was a drug deal gone bad. This is how rumors get started...........If you didn't see it with your own eyes, or hear it with your own ears then don't repeat it, cause you know what they say about assumptions........."ass-u-me"

Thanks for the information Kathleen. I am glad the schools are recognizing what's going on and the need for education. Hopefully something will begin to change around here. I love this town been here forever and hope my kids can love it also.

The Tewksbury community education people used to put on a "drug class" (I forget what it was called). It was for parents only and it was very good, but it was over several weeks and I was unable to attend all of them. But what it did was show simple household items that you could find in your childs room and not think anything of, but that were indicative of drug activity. I read an article in Lowell Sun about a speaker that Bob Ware brought to Westford Academy who looked like would relate well with the kids. Maybe we could get that speaker as well?

Hi Kathy.. thanks so much for sharing this information. It needs to be widely publicized. I'm glad to hear that something is being done.
