One Injured As Crash Ties Up Traffic On 495 For 17 Miles

One woman was as injured Wednesday as the result of a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 495 in Tewksbury at the height of rush-hour traffic.

The accident took place just before 7 a.m. between exits 35 and 36, according to a report published on Boston.com. The crash too place in the southbound lane but traffic was tied up on both sides of the highway for a total of 17 miles, from Methuen, all the way south to Route 2.

The crash left the woman's car pinned under a tractor trailer and teamed with State Police to get the woman freed, according to the Boston.com report. She was taken by ambulance to the Leahy Clinic in Burlington with what were described as "serious" injuries.

The scene was finally cleared and traffic flowed freely at around 10 a.m. the cause of the accident is under investigation.
