Police Log: Caller's Sense of Smell Leads to Drug Arrest

Thursday, August 9

12:55 a.m.: Chad M. Cartienitz, 24, of 101 Meredith Road in Tewksbury, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor second offense, negligent operating of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation and speeding.

1:41 p.m.: At , an employee called to report an unwanted party. John H. Machado, 77, of 90 Sprague Ave. in Lowell, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

4:52 p.m.: A passerby reported that a child appeared to be struck by a vehicle while he was riding his bike on Livingston Street. The accident did not involve a vehicle. The child just fell from his bicycle. The patient was transported to the hospital with his father following the ambulance.

7:01 p.m.: On Mitchell G. Drive a caller reported that her the angel’s head from her cement fountain had been removed and thrown in her driveway.

9:15 p.m.: The manager from reported that a female party was asked to leave, became angry and bit a six-year-old female. It was unknown at the time if the woman left on foot or in a vehicle. The manager believed the woman lives in , and an employee there reports that she is staying there. The father of the girl at Motel 6 declined medical attention and there is no evidence of a bite mark.

10:09 p.m.: A caller on Old Boston Road reported that she was driving behind an erratic operator that left a parking lot and was on the other side of the road. The caller could smell marijuana while driving behind the vehicle. Richard J. Dufresne, 36, of 17 Hutchinson Street in Lowell, was arrested and charged with possession of Class B drugs with intent to distribute. 

11:30 p.m.: On Pratt Street, a caller reported a male party wearing a black mask and white hoodie who is standing by her front door and trying to get inside. Police requested an ambulance to respond for an evaluation of the caller because she appeared to be hallucinating. The EMT’s checked her out and the woman signed a refusal waiver.

Friday, August 10

1:53 a.m.: Officers stopped a vehicle outside of . Christopher Conley, 40, of 44 High Street in Billerica, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended licenses, marked lanes violation and an outstanding warrant. A 48-year-old Tewksbury man was taken into protective custody.

2:03 p.m.: Police received a 911 call from Main Street where a caller reported being threatened by the husband of an employee who left earlier in the week. The man does not want to press charges or go forward with any other information.
