Tewksbury Police and State Police are investigating a brutal assault Tuesday afternoon that sent one victim to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Deputy Police Chief John Voto, officers were called to Compass Lane around 3 p.m. for a report of a man lying unconscious in a driveway. The man sustained significant serious injuries, which Voto said appeared to be as the result of a beating.
The name of the victim and the address police were called to has not yet been released.
Investigators remained on scene for several hours, gathering evidence. During this time the road was closed off to car and pedestrian traffic.
Compass Lane is a small dead end road located off Shawsheen Street.
According to a Tewksbury Fire Department spokesperson, the victim was initially going to be transported by Life Flight due to the severity of his injuries. However, a decision was made to transport him by ambulance to Lowell General Hospital instead. From Lowell General, the victim was flown to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, according to Voto.
As of 9 p.m., no arrests had yet been made in the case but Voto said police were, "closing in on a suspect."
