Tewksbury Man Charged With Trying To Kill His Brother

Victim escaped by running to a neighbor's house.

A 63-year-old Tewksbury man was arraigned Monday morning in Lowell District Court, charged with assaulting his brother and trying to strangle him in the home the men share at 18 Euclid Ave.

Stephan Gibbons is charged with attempted murder and domestic assault and battery.

According to information provided by the , Dispatch received a 911 call just after 9 p.m., reporting a domestic assault. Officers responded to the scene and found the victim had run across the street to a residence at 19 Euclid Ave. to escape the attack and get help.

The officers were met by the victim, who told them what had transpired. He told the officers that he had been in his room, reading, when his brother, Stephan Gibbons, entered his room and, without warning or provocation, began hitting him in the head with a hard object. He was unable to identify the object. He said he tried to run away ut that his brother grabbed him and began to choke him with his hands. The man told the officers that he began to gasp for breath and "struggled violently" to get away. When he finally did break free, he ran to the neighbor's house.

Officers observed lacerations and evidence of trauma on his face and head area. He received treatment at the scene and was later transported to Saints Medical Centerl for additional treatment.

The officers began searching for the suspect and found the man hiding behind a camper in the back yard of the house. He was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters.
