Tewksbury Police conducting surveillance at McDonald's on Andover Street arrested two Lawrence men on Monday that officers say were in the middle of an alleged heroin deal.

Police announced on Tuesday that officers were monitoring the area when they witnessed Juan Taveras Mora, 27, of 18 Melrose Street, Lawrence, and Wilfry Santana, 21, of 8 Crestshire Drive, Lawrence, in the midst of the alleged drug transaction.

Following the incident, each was placed into custody and charged with distribution of heroin and conspiracy.

Both Mora and Santana were scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Tuesday.

TPD, although appearing to do a good job, is just scratching the surface with their stakeouts and arrests. Commendable efforts for sure. Heroin and meth are so prevalent it would be impossible to make a dent in the supply and demand with the available manpower.

Tony D, what would you suggest we do?? We can only do as much as is humanly possible. If they can take a few off the streets that is that many less. It really is a shame that this world has turned into what it has. I sometimes want to stop the world I want to get off.

Mary - What is your problem? I said the TPD is doing a commendable job with the resources they have. There is just too much of a drug problem, here and elsewhere, to make it disappear. Ask 50% of the TMHS seniors if they know where they can get drugs. They will say sure. How much and what are you looking for?

Tony D, I didn't mean for it to sound like I was complaining about anything you said. I really thought you might know how we can reel in some of these dealers. Sorry if it came out the wrong way. Yes, our Town and many other Towns have the same drug problems we are having, and there will never be a solution to the to problem. I am very grateful to the Tewksbury Police Dept. for bringing to justice whoever they find performing this injustice. I apologize if it came out wrong.

Nope. Don't have any contact with drug dealers. See suspicious activity here and there but nothing that I could call the police about. These people could be next door, around the corner or down the street. Unless they make a mistake you wouldn't know they were here.
