The following information is provided by the Tewksbury Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A  New Hampshire man was arrested by Tewksbury Police on July 12 on charges including attempted murder following an alleged argument with his girlfriend at the Extended Stay America Hotel

Keegan Cardin, 20, of South Hampton, N.H. was arrested and charged with attempted murder and domestic assault and battery.

Police responded to the hotel at 1910 Andover Street at approximately 9 p.m. after receiving reports of an argument between a male and female in the lobby, according to a release from the Tewksbury Police Department.

Upon arrival, police were told that the two had retreated to the female's room. At the door, officers could hear a female screaming "Stop it. Stop it. Get off of me," according to the release.

Officers then entered the room and identified Cardin, who was alledgedly "out of breath and sweating profusely," and a female who was crying and having a difficult time catching her breath, according to the release.

The female victim, identified as Cardin's girlfriend of two to three years, told officers she had been strangled to near unconsciousness by Cardin twice before police entered the room, according to the release.

The victim stated she had struggled with Cardin both times, and was successfully able to break free, according to the release.

Officers observed injuries on the female that were consistent with her statements.

The victim told police she believed Cardin was possibly under the influence of heroin at the time, and had forced his way into her room before police arrived.

Cardin was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.
