Tewksbury Police Sergeant Placed on Leave Following OUI Arrest

Police Chief Timothy Sheehan said the investigation is in the early stages following Sergeant Timothy Kelly's arrest in Lowell.

Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan confirmed on Monday that a sergeant in the department has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest over the weekend.

Timothy Kelly of 810 East Street, Tewksbury, was arrested in Lowell on April 5 and charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Sheehan confirmed that the man arrested is Tewksbury Police Sgt. Timothy Kelly.

"He has been temporarily placed on administrative leave while we begin an administrative investigation," said Sheehan. "The arrest occurred in Lowell so they are handling the criminal investigation."

Because the investigation is ongoing, Sheehan said he could not provide any additional details on what further discipline Kelly could face.

"I cannot comment further at this time as we are in the early stages of the investigation," said Sheehan.
