Two Manhunts Yield No Arrests For Tewksbury Police

The Tewksbury Police Department found themselves in a rare position this week. Over the past few days, the TPD engaged in a pair of manhunts but in both cases, the suspects managed to slip away.

The first incident took place Saturday night at 11:21 p.m., when a cabbie reported that he had dropped off a man on Vale Street. The cabbie told police that the man not only refused to pay his fare but he also threated the cabbie with a knife. The cabie also alleged that the man said he had a .45 revolver in his home and planned to use it.The cabbie said man then hopped into a vehicle and also chased him away from the scene.

Five police units were sent to the scene and a BOLO was sent out. A K9 unit was also called in, as were two detectives. The suspect, whose name was not released, was not immediately located.

Then, on Monday, Oct. 15, at 4:24 a.m. an officer had a car pulled over on Heidenrich Drive. As the officer was waiting for backup to arrive, the drive suddenly took off at a high rate of speed down Rogers Street toward North Billerica Road.

According to the report, the suspect crashed his car and, according to the reporting officer, took off on foot and headed into the woods behind a home on North Billerica Road.

The suspect was described as being around 5-10, dressed in a white T-shirt.

Two K9 Units was called to scene.Billerica and Lowell Police were both notified. State Police also responded. The suspect's car was towed from the scene but he was not immediately located. The suspect's name was not released.

Additional Incidents:

On Monday, Oct. 15, at 5:26 a.m., a caller reported that his four tired had been stolen off his car on Merrimack Meadows Lane. He called back a short time later to report that his girlfriend's car had been stolen.

On Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:26 a.m., Police received a 911 call regarding a stolen motor vehicle being reported from Rogers Street. A report was filed.

On Saturday, Oct 13, at 4:57 p.m., An employee at Tewksbury Country Club called police to report vandalism. The caller said a front window had been smashed on a car in the lot. A pocketbook was stolen.

On Saturday, Oct 13 at 8:25 p.m., a caller from Merrimack Drive reported that as she was leaving a building there, she saw six youths and one of them appeared to be tied up and getting dragged.
