Annual Flu Vaccine Clinic, Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and More From the Council on Aging

The latest news from the Tewksbury Council on Aging.


The following companies offering insurance coverage for Seniors 65 and over will be speaking at theSenior Center during the month of November.  It is asked that you call 978-640-4480 and have yourname placed on the attendance list if you are planning to attend.  The presentations are schedule as follows:

  • This Friday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. – Fallon Health Care by Heather Bousquet
  • Friday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. – United Health Care 
  • Friday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. – BC/BS by Heather Hurd

The Senior Center will be closed next Monday, Nov. 11 in recognition of Veteran's Day.  A heartfelt “THANK YOU” is extended to all our Veterans...the protectors of our Freedom.

The Golden Age Club will hold its regular monthly meeting next Tuesday, Nov. 12  at 12:30 p.m. Golden Age Bingo will be held after the business meeting.

The Board of Health will conduct its Annual Flu Vaccine Clinic at the Senior Center, 175 ChandlerStreet on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Tewksbury residents 50 years and older.  It should be noted that supplies are limited.  Please remember to bring along your insurance cards.  Questions may be directed to the Public Health Nurse, Sarah Kinghorn, at 978-640-4473 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks will hold its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Tewksbury Senior Citizens on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Elks Lodge on South Street. Those utilizing bus transportation for this event should note that pick-ups will take place between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Exactly what time one will be picked up depends on the route and the traffic during this time.  Please be watchful for the bus.

A Country Western Dance will be held at the Senior Center the following day on Friday, Nov. 15.  Music will be provided by the Jimmy Allen Band.  Tickets are $10 which may be purchased now or at the door.  This event should prove to be a foot stomp'n good time. 

Dr. Smith will conduct a Podiatry Clinic at the Senior Center on Saturday, Nov. 16.  This clinic is now full.  A waiting list is being compiled.  Those registered are asked to check their appointment time.  On this day, we will be setting up for the Breakfast Benefit and Mini Fair being held on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.  This breakfast is opened to the public.

Tickets are still available for the following Red Hat Carnation Belles activities:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 – Buffalo Bingo and refreshments -  $5
  • Thursday, Dec. 12 – HuKeLau for lunch and a Christmas Show - $54

The Silvertones will hold a dance at the Senior Center on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

Tickets are also available for: the COA & Friends Christmas Dinner of Friday, Dec. 6 ($15); the Blues Brothers Show of Friday, Dec. 13 ($10) which is being funded, in part, by the local Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council; and, the Friends New Year's Eve Dinner/Dance of Tuesday, Dec. 31 ($50).  Additional information can be obtained at the Senior Center.

Tickets are now available for the following day trips.  Please note that there is a change in the cost of the Bonworth trip; and, the date of the Festival of Trees trip has been corrected.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 20 – Old Country Buffet & Bonworth $15 plus cost of lunch
  • Saturday, Nov. 23  Festival of Trees, Christmas Tree Shop and Chateau in Andover for Lunch - $38
  • Thursday, Dec. 5 – Foxwood Casino day trip - $25 (tickets available on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 8:15 a.m.)
The Council on Aging is now assisting Tewksbury Senior Citizen residents with Fuel Assistance applications.  Seniors may call Jan or Linda at 978-640-4482 to arrange an appointment and find out what information one needs to bring with them when applying. Younger families may call Community Teamwork (CTI) at 978-459-6161 for information on how to apply. Some of the household income eligibility for fuel assistance are as follows:  1 person $32,065;   2 people $41,932; 3 people $51,798; 4 people $61,664. Information on larger families and the eligible incomes is posted at the Senior Center and is also available from CTI.
