Friends of the Elderly to Host Dance at Senior Center

There will be a "Friends of the Elderly" dance at the Senior Center this Friday, Sept. 10, from 7 to 11 p.m.   Entertainment for the evening is "Pete Saran and the New Life Band."  Tickets are available at the door at $10 per person.

Golfers participating in the MAW Golf Tournament at Indian Ridge Country Club next Monday, Sept. 13 are reminded that "Tee Time" is bright and early at 7 a.m..  A special note of thanks is extended to all those volunteers who have helped with the preparation of the golf tournament. 

Bunka Embroidery classes will resume next week on Monday, Sept. 13 and on Thursday, Sept. 16.  Both classes begin at 1 p.m.  Those interested in obtaining information on these classes are welcome to stop by on class day and talk to the instructor, Beverly Enos.

The State Primary Election will be held next Tuesday, Sept. 14.  Due to the fact that the Senior Center is an Election Site, all activities have been cancelled for the day.

It should be noted that the hot lunch and meals on wheels program will still take place.

The GAC meeting which would have been held on the 14th has been changed and will take place the following week on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m.  The regular Tuesday Zingo games will not be held on the 21st.  It will be GAC bingo after the meeting.

Those traveling to the Mohegan Sun next Wednesday, Sept. 15 are reminded that the bus shall depart at 7 a.m. sharp.  Please be sure to park vehicles along the perimeter of the parking lot.  Everyone's cooperation will allow for able parking space for those participating in activities at the Senior Center during the day.  Registrations for the next casino trip to Foxwood on October 11th will take place on Monday, Sept. 20 beginning at 8:15 a.m.

During the evening of Sept. 15 and in recognition of "Assisted Living Week" Bayberry at Emerald Court, The Pines of Tewksbury and the Blair House will conduct a "Living Life Well at Assisted Living Communities" Seminar at the Tewksbury SeniorCenter.

This seminar will be held from 4 to 7 p.m.  The evening will include: educational presentations; information tables and refreshments.  The event is free and open to the public.  If one is planning to attend, we ask that you please RSVP by calling the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.   

An activities meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 3:30 p.m. for those volunteers who will be working at the Senior Center Yard Sale of Saturday, Sept. 25. 

People wishing to rent a table for this yard sale may now do so. The table rental fee is $15 per table or $25 for two tables.  This event is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Now is the time to get that "Fall Cleaning" done and rent a table space at this yard sale.  The event is held "rain or shine" and usually has a great turnout.  For more information, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.

Other Dances scheduled for the month of September are:

• A Silver Tones dance on Friday, Sept. 17.
• A DJ Jon Mansfield lunch & dance on Monday, Sept. 27.

An Annual High Tea event will take place at the Senior Center on Sunday, Sept. 19 beginning at 2 p.m..  The craft ladies work hard at making this an elegant affair.  The agenda includes a performance by theater and TV star, Richard Clark, as he provides wit and wisdom through the character of Mark Twain.  High Tea will follow this performance.

Tickets are now available at $12 per person.  This event is being funded, in part, by the Tewksbury Cultural Council which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is open to the Public.  Hope to see you there.

Tickets are still available for the day trip of Monday, Sept. 20 when Seniors will take an Essex River Cruise and then have lunch at Shea's Restaurant after the cruise.  The cost is $48 per person.  The sign-up deadline for this trip will be next Thursday, Sept. 16. 

An interest list is being complied to see if there are enough people interested in attending the Big E in Springfield on Wednesday, Sept. 22.  It is estimated that the cost based on 35 people participating will be around $45.  If interested please let your intentions known so plans can be arranged.

A "Caregivers Support Group" began this past Tuesday at the Senior Center. Participants are still welcomed to join this group.  One may do so by contacting Ms. Bonanno at 978-372-4211. The remaining meetings will be held on Sept. 21; Oct. 5 & 19; and Nov. 9 & 23.  This support group is free and open to anyone who cares for a family member or friend. 

The Carnation Belles will travel to the North Shore Theatre on November 17 to see Chorus Line.  The trip cost is $57 and tickets are still available.  Those Red Hat Belles traveling to the Medieval Manor on Thursday September 23rd are reminded that the bus shall depart from the Senior Center at approximately 5:30 PM.

One will want to mark his/her calendar for Friday, Nov. 5 when "Lee Lewis and the Doo Wop Allstars will be back to the Tewksbury Senior Center to perform and provide music to dance to.  They were a big hit the last time they were at the Center.

Tickets are now available at $15.  Don't be left out.  Get your ticket now.

Reservations are now being taken for the MEGA Musical "NUNSENSE" which will be  held at the Tewksbury Senior Center on Nov. 19, 20 and 21.    Mark your calendars for it would be a sin to pass up this opportunity.  The ticket cost is $40 and reservations are required by calling ACTORS, inc. at 978-984-3151. 

The Saturday, Nov. 20 matinee performance has been added to the agenda for the purpose of recognizing our Tewksbury Council on Aging Volunteers.  Those volunteers wishing to attend may register at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  These will be the only days that a volunteer may sign up.  When doing so, volunteers will be asked to fill out and up-date information on his/her COA volunteer work and hours.

This event on the 20th will be free to COA volunteers.  If a COA volunteer would like to bring his/her spouse or family member who does not volunteer, this may be done at a cost of $40.  Space will be determined on a first come basis so don't wait too long to register. 

Residents are reminded that the Snooti Patooti Gift Boutique at the Senior Center is holding an "After Inventory Blow Out Sale" which has been extended through Sept. 14, Primary Election day.  You won't want to miss out on this great sale.  Please note that "Consignor Items" are NOT included in this sale.  However, all other shop items will be 50 percent of the marked prices…some of which have already been marked down.  Several items will be marked down by 75 percent. 

Residents are also reminded that the Lowell Health Department is holding a day for Lowell and area Town residents to dispose of "Unwanted Medications".  These disposed medications are being collected at the Lowell Health Department, 341 Pine St., Lowell on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m.  For more information one may call 978-970-4010 extension (9)4304.

SHINE Counselor, Jill, is at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and is seen by appointment only.  To arrange an appointment, one may call the Senior Center at 978-640-4480.  The SHINE Counselor is available to advise Senior Citizens on medical insurance options.

A Farmer's Market is held at the Senior Center, 175 Chandler St. EVERY Thursday during the summer and fall months from noon to 5 p.m.
