Gov. Patrick Visits Tewksbury, Addresses Snow Cleanup and Local Aid

Governor offers thanks to efforts by State Highway Department workers.

Gov. Deval Patrick was in Tewksbury on Thursday, stopping by the State Highway Department depot on Clark Road.

The governor addressed the efforts of state workers relative to snow and ice cleanup this winter. He also took a moment to address criticisms levied at him by legislators, including members of his own party, regarding his proposed State Budget for Fiscal Year 2012 and an estimated seven percent cut in unrestricted local aid.

Didn't know this depot even existed in Tewksbury - So is this more state land that we don't earn taxes on? what percentage in Tewksbury is state land? Bill - is that a figure you could find out? The move to medicare that the video discusses - how do we make that happent? is that a town decision or a state legislature decision! Thank you! great reporting as always

I'm going to go with "Yes" regarding the state land, which is located just on the other side of 495, near the Stadium Plaza. Not sure on the percentage but I can have that for you by the end of the day. As for the medicare ... watch for that to be discussed as part of our series we will be starting this week on the FY 2012 Tewksbury Budget. I've been told the process is not necessarily as easy as the governor makes it out to be but that it certainly is on the table. And thank you Lee Anne! Very kind of you.

I agree with the above comment..."Thank you! Great reporting as always" Why doesn't the Tewksbury School Committee invite Gov. Deval Patrick along with Sen. Barry Finegold and State Rep. James Miceli to attend an upcoming School Committee meeting. All three at the same meeting. Allowing the residents of Tewksbury to get some clear and informative answers? This could result in allowing us to collectively make smarter choices with the most impact regarding budget matters that will be offered to our town. I would truly like to see the School Committee along with the Superintendent of Schools Dr. John O’Connor make this an Action Item for an upcoming meeting and make this happen!!

Been there since 1960 when they built 495 was bought from land owner by goverment to build interstate 495. also is advantage for tewksbury to have it there . plowing ,street repair ,etc. for route 38 gets done faster and if you grew up in town in the 70s and 80s thats where you got your drivers license.
