Why is the primary on a Thursday? Odd to me.

I hate to admit that I hadnt even noticed that. Possibly to avoid it being the day after the holiday weekend? We can check with Denise Graffeo for a definitive answer.

OK Bob, and others who might have wondered, here is the official answer from Town Clerk Denise Graffeo.... "Good question. The date of the State Primary was originally set for Tuesday, September 18th. When it was discovered that the date conflicted with the Jewish celebration of Rosh Hashanah, pursuant to Section 8A of Chapter 171 of the Acts of 2011, the General Court voted to change the date of the 2012 State Primary to Thursday, September 6th." So there you have it. Consider this a mini-version of "You asked ... Patch Answers."

Thanks Bill! May be my almost 50 years of living in Massachusetts turning me into a skeptic but I am betting there were other factors in changing from a Tuesday or Saturday to a Thursday.
