Lombardi To Speak At Memorial Day Service, Sen. Brown To March In Parade

Plans unveiled for Tewksbury's Memorial Day activities

State Police Trooper and Army Sfc. Kenneth Lombardi will serve as the special guest speaker for Tewksbury's Memorial Day Service on May 28.

In addition, has once again committed to marching in to the town's Memorial Day Parade.

The service, which takes place in the , begins at 12:45 p.m., with the parade set to begin from the center of town at 2 p.m.

Lombardi, a 17-year Army veteran, is a graduate of and still lives in town with his wife.

During his military career, Lombardi has been awarded 24 medals including the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal, four Army Commendation Medals and the Joint Service Achievement Medal.

During his tours of duty, he was the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Camp Support Group, 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Camp Julian, Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 2011 to January 2012. He participated in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan in 2002 and 2011.

This will be the second year in a row Brown has marched in the Tewksbury Memorial Day Parade. Brown is running for re-election this year and is locked in a close race with Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren.

Paul McNaught, commander of American Legion Post 259 will serve as master of ceremony for the service. The opening prayer will be provided by Larry Sanford and Selectman Todd Johnson will provide opening remarks and introduce town officials.

Tewksbury Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Music will be provided by Arlene Wright and the Swinging Seniors, as well as the combined bands of Tewksbury High and the Wynn Middle School, directed by Andrew Walsh.

Baskets of flowers will be laid at graves representing the deceased heroes from every war and conflict dating back the American Revolution, by members of the American Legion, Daughters of the American Revolution and Korean War Veterans.

do the boy scouts still place flags at the veteran graves?

Boy Scout Troop 41 will be at the Tewksbury Cemetery on Friday night placing flags on the Veteran graves, as they do every year before Memorial Day!

What a beautiful and moving tribute to our Veterans today at Tewksbury Cemetery. The spirit and meaning of this day is not lost on Tewksbury residents as proven by the wonderful turn out. Thanks to all who participated. To follow it up with a grand hometown parade was the icing on the cake. Thanks to all who make it happen. A truly great community day for our Town!
