Special Town Meeting Takes Place Wednesday Night

A variety of items will be discussed beginning at 7 p.m. inside Tewksbury Memorial High School.

A crowd of about 150 people attended Annual Town Meeting on Monday night, approving a variety of items in the process. On Wednesday night, voters will have the opportunity to get back to work.

Special Town Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday night, beginning at 7 p.m. inside Tewksbury Memorial High School.

Among the items to be discussed is the appropriation of about $825,000 for rehabilitation to Town Hall and Town Common. The item was slated to be voted on Monday night, but town officials wanted to wait until Wednesday since bids were still coming in for the project.

Article 1 at Special Town Meeting asks residents to move funding from surplus in several departments totaling $260,500 into areas of deficit.

Article 2 asks voters to approve $600,000 be moved from free cash to pay for the town's snow and ice budget, which exceeded the allotted amount.

Article 3 seeks to use the Stabilization Fund to purchase two twin fire engines/pumpers and also pay for sick leave buyback.

Article 4 will add the Town Clerk's position to the personnel bylaw, making it an appointed role instead of an elected on.

Article 5 will remove the Town Clerk's position from the same bylaw as an elected position.
