State Flags Lowered to Half Staff Monday for Late Tewksbury Resident

Flags will be flown at half staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday to honor Andrew J. Kraynick.

Flags around the state will be flown at half staff on Monday to pay tribute to Tewksbury resident and United States Marine Andrew J. Kraynick, who passed away last week, reportedly during an accident in West Virginia.

Kraynick graduated from graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 2011, and following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Marine Corps Base-Camp Lejeune in North Carolina awaiting deployment prior to his death.

Governor Deval Patrick ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag be lowered to half staff on Monday from sunrise until sunset at all state buildings to honor the late Kraynick, who was 21 years old.

Flags that will be at half staff are as follows: 

  • The main or adminstration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls
  • Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings
  • All state military installations
